Brain Cysts

Brain cysts can be present at birth or developed throughout life. They consist of fluid-filled sacs that form in the brain tissue or on its surface and are diagnosed through CT or MRI scans. Brain cysts can be cancerous or benign, and may cause symptoms depending on their size and location. These are: headaches, seizures, nausea or vomiting, balance or coordination problems, vision issues, and behavioral or cognitive changes.

Treatment

Many cysts only require monitoring, while symptomatic or growing cysts may need surgical removal or drainage. Though often non-cancerous, brain cysts should be evaluated by a neurologist or neurosurgeon to ensure they do not interfere with brain function.
